Marvel Unlimited Digital Comic Experience

Problem Statement

Marvel fans feel left out in the audiobook space. Despite the richness of the Marvel universe, audio adaptations are limited, fragmented, and often lack the immersive quality fans expect. Users are frustrated by the lack of personalised recommendations and flexible listening formats.

They want more control. As audiobooks grow in popularity, Marvel risks missing a key opportunity to engage its audience through more dynamic, tailored, and accessible listening experiences.

Discovery

To better understand why Marvel fans feel underserved in the audiobook space, I’ll use empathy mapping to uncover user frustrations and desires, card sorting to inform content organisation, and competitor analysis to identify opportunities for more personalised, flexible, and engaging listening experiences.

Define

I defined the approach through user interviews using Dovetail to uncover motivations, pain points, and listening habits. Mapped user journeys to identify key moments of friction and opportunity.

As well as developed personas to represent core listener segments, ensuring our solutions are grounded in real user needs and behaviours.

Develop

Building on insights from my research, I developed user flows to map out key interactions and ensure a seamless reading and listening experience, then translated these flows into low-fidelity wireframes to visualise core features, test usability assumptions, and iterate quickly based on user feedback.

Deliver

By following a human-centered UX process I successfully developed a high-fidelity Marvel Unlimited prototype that delivers on personalisation, ease of navigation, and immersive listening, meeting user needs and bringing a traditionally print medium into the modern “on the go” age.
